Lake Diefenbaker Cottage
The client was going to build this project himself and therefore had a very clear idea and extensive requirement list which made for a fun and interesting design process.
Initially it was to be a seasonal get-away, and later as a part-time residence for 6 months of the year. The lot was designed to include the main cottage, a structure to house a boathouse/studio/workshop, and another building for a double garage cut into the bank at the lower street level. The design of the cottage captures the NE views of the lake, the morning sunrises, and afternoon sun on the large terraced deck and covered ‘outdoor’ spaces. Large timber posts and skylights at the center of the plan were used to define the stairwell to the lower floor.
